ANOTHER
COUNTRY (BMG 1992) |

The
concept for doing a country album had been in Paddy's
mind for some time. Following a sellout show at Nashville's
Tennessee Performing Arts Center and guest-hosting of
a programme for the Nashville Network's "American Music
Shop" - most of the guests from which appear on this recording
- The Chieftains were in Javelina Studios recording 'Killybegs'
with members of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. The buzz from
that session encouraged The Chieftains to book studio
time for a run of recordings to complete this album in
Nashville after the tour. A recording of Cúnla
with Colin James a few days previously joined the album
which was already taking shape, and after recording 'Goodnight
Irene' with Willie Nelson in Ireland, it was back to Nashville
for a busy and enjoyable week of recordings with such
legends as Don Williams, Ricky Skaggs - whose enthusiasm
and energy helped put the project together - Chet Atkins,
Emmylou Harris, amongst others. At the end of the week,
with standing room only in the studio, all of the artists
assembled for the grand finale 'Did you Ever Go A-Courtin',
'Uncle Joe' and finishing with 'Will the Circle Be Unbroken'.
A magical time, a magical album.
'Another Country' received 2 Grammy awards for 'Best Contemporary
Folk Album' and 'Best Traditional Folk Album' in 1993.
It was also nominated that year in
3 other categories: 'Best Pop Instrumental Performance',
'Best Country Vocal Collaboration', and 'Best Country
Instrumental Performance' (for 'Cotton Eyed Joe') |
