AN
IRISH EVENING: LIVE AT THE GRAND OPERA HOUSE, BELFAST,
WITH ROGER DALTREY AND NANCI GRIFFITH (1992) |
| |

| |
The idea for this album came out of the very first Chieftains
Festival, a week long series of concerts, featuring
such
artists as Roger Daltrey, Roddy Frame of Aztec Camera,
The Pogues, Fergal Sharkey, Midge Ure, Ralph McTell
and Alan Stivell.. They were approached
by UTV on the strength of this to do a tv special, with
two performances at the Belfast Opera House with
special
guest stars. The Chieftains managed to include an album
and video in the deal, and the shows went ahead successfully
featuring Roger Daltrey, Nanci Griffith and step
dancer
Jean Butler.
'An Irish Evening' received
a Grammy for 'Best Traditional Folk Album' in 1993.
